One evening, I was on my way to church along with my mom during my holidays. Having changed to our new house about a month back, I was still getting used to the new surroundings. We normally catch a rick from next to our building. But today the rickwala asked us an above-normal price! So my mom and myself decided to catch a rick from the main-road. During my walk, I decided to explore the new environment. There seemed something strange about this evening! Maybe it's because I had just gotten up from my deep slumber! Little did I know that I would be awakened by an incident that followed up.
I saw this three year old kid playing with two elders standing with him. The kid sees his mother (or so I think she was) on the other side of the road. Excited, the kid runs along caring little for the vehicles that move along. The elders suddenly see the child crossing and shout as a bike approaches the 'free' child at good speed. I realize that any person who can do something is me. I take a step or two forward, grab the little boy and pulls it back to safety. The biker meanwhile, had pulled over just in time as well. But had the boy continued with his carefree run across the road, he might have ended up under the wheels of another approaching bike going towards the direction of our walk!
The child is safe in my hands. He looks up and sees the strangers face. But the look on his face is that of cluelessness! He had no clue what hapeened and what was to happen!!! Such is the innocence of a child! But what happened next is something that I didn't expect!!! I suddenly see the child dragged off my hands by one of the two 'elders'. He starts slapping and hitting the little three year old ruthlessly. So the fault lies with the child heh? You leave your kid unattended in a busy road and then blame the innocent thing for being given that freedom to fly!!!
Our shouts to leave the child is hardly being heard at! As we continue our walk, we could still hear the child's weeping (this is an understatement) about 100 metres away! The evening really was strange!!!
